Kai Zheng Elected ACMI Fellow for Contributions to Biomedical Informatics

Informatics Professor Kai Zheng was elected a Fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics (ACMI). ACMI Fellows are elected by their peers and are individuals who “have demonstrated major contributions in biomedical and health informatics, have achieved national recognition in the field, and are committed to advancing the charitable, scientific, literary and educational purposes of ACMI.”

Zheng joined UCI in 2016 as an associate professor of informatics and associate adjunct professor of emergency medicine. He directs the Center for Biomedical Informatics (CBMI) at the UCI Institute for Clinical and Translational Science (ICTS). His research draws upon techniques from the fields of information systems and human-computer interaction to study the use of information, communication and decision technologies in patient care delivery and management. His recent work has focused on topics such as interaction design, workflow and sociotechnical integration, and diffusion and evaluation of health IT. His work includes using computational methods to augment the value of unstructured free-text data, such as clinician notes and patient-generated content online.
